Bangladesh, officially named as “The People’s Republic of Bangladesh.” Situated at the deltaic mouth of the Ganges, Bangladesh stretches between 20.34 degree and 26.38 degree north latitude and 88.01 degree and 92.41 degree east longitude. The country occupies a strategic position in South Asia having border with India and Myanmar and Bay of Bengal.The population of Bangladesh as of estimate of 2009 was 162 million, about which 90% are Muslim, and the minorities consist of other religions such as Hindus, Christians and Buddists. Usually the temperature in winter season varies from 9 to 12 degree Celsius and in summer 25 degree to 30 degree Celsius.

Bangla is the national and official Language. English is widely spoken and understood. Dhaka is capital city. Is a democratic county having the parliamentary form of Government. The major cites are Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi, Barisal and Sylhet while the international airports are located in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet. The Principal crops are Rice, Wheat, Jute, Cotton, Tea, Tobacco, Sugarcane, Pulses, Oil seeds, spices, potatotes, green vegetables, banana, mango, coconut.Principal Industries are Jute and Cotton, Textile, Garment, Tea, Sugar, etc.Principal Imports are manufactured goods, Machineries, Transports, Petroleum products, chemicals, edible oils, etc. while Principal Exports are Jute materials, readymade garments, Leather, Frozen shrimps, Ships, Fruits and handicrafts.

10 Mega Projects

Bangladesh is a very active workplace of development works. Many development projects have been completed and today many more are ongoing. All projects have a single aim of attaining the status of a developed nation by 2041. Before that, we targeted to achieve the status of a middle-income country in 2021, at the 50th anniversary of our independence. Recently we promoted our status to lower middle-income country. Our life standard today is higher than any previous time. We have a foreign reserve of more than $30 billion.

Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project It is a multipurpose road-rail bridge project across the Padma River in Bangladesh. On completion, it will be the largest bridge in Bangladesh and the first fixed river crossing for road traffic. It will connect the south-west part of the country, to the northern and eastern regions. The main length of the bridge is 6.15 Km. Viaduct length is 3.148 Km road and 532m rail. Its estimated cost according to 2nd RDPP is $3.692 billion. It is comparatively tough to construct a bridge on the mighty river the Padma. But, it was an essential one to connect the southern part of Bangladesh with the capital city. Till December 2017 its the overall progress of the project was 50% according to the official website of the project (http://padmabridge.gov.bd).
